Area Monthly Safety Meeting

Present: Penny Gregory DSM SA East, Alun Griffiths CWU Area Safety rep, Darran Dyke DSM SA West
Review of last action points:
- Pontardawe / Ystalyfera merger - with Penny to agree finances needed for the move and date
- Llanelli - Penny to check if fittings with top sorting row now redesigned
- Narberth move - with Darran to work with Chris Parsons from POPH to work on detailed costings
- Safe place to work booklet - Penny to check with Paul Parvin where we are with this with a view to deployment
- Alun to retrain Arwyn Rees AG Ammanford following recent accidents on duty
SA Area Safety statistics
Excellent year on year performance as seen in above safety triangle with 25% RIDDOR target being exceeded as 55% improvement
Action - Penny to send stats to DOMs with actions from the Area meetings
Action - DSMs to ensure Alun has details of any RIDDORs
Action - Alun to let Mark Kelleher know which accident reports he hasn't got up to end P5 then Mark to request them for Alun from the DOMs
Action - Mark to send safety stats to DSMs and Alun prior to monthly meetings
New topics
SID policy (deploying safety excellence) Penny shared with Alun that the policy had been deployed in the SA Area
Walklogs and audits - Penny said that a new standard walklog with audit process had been developed (as attached below) and that the DOMs were going to undertaking a self assessment
Action - DOMs to do self assessment & Alun to support achievement of compliant walklogs
Redirections - Alun shared a process whereby DO would notify the recieving DO of a dog hazard and suggested that DOMs start doing the process
Action - DOMs to implement notification of dog presenting hazards to recieving DO's
PIC training - Penny advised that this training was being set up in September / October for SA DOMs and deputy PICs
Swine flu - Alun asked what was being done on this issues, Penny said no proactive actions were being taken and that any employees concerned were seeking medical advise
WPQ 1 /2's - Penny asked for Alun’s support in sitting with postpeople who had to update their walklogs with hazards to ensure a better quality of hazard identification.
Seat belt checks - Penny asked Alun to continue to do "spot" seatbelt audits in DOs in SA
Office inspections - Alun said he would continue to ensure he did these regularly
Cars on delivery - Alun had recent notification that Police had stopped postpeople using cars on delivery and was considering researching further and maybe writing to DSM
Date of next meeting - Monday 5th October
