Strategic Involvement Meeting on 7th November
Issues discussed
SICK ABSENCE
On the matter of sick absence, management and the CWU were informed that as part of Royal Mail's attendance management procedure a letter is to be sent to all staff outlining the procedures to be followed when on sick leave. Concerns were raised that any individual's pay could be stopped because of non-compliance with the guidelines set out in this letter. Individuals should still be contacted in writing pending any action to withhold pay.
MAIL CENTRE BONUS PAYMENT
The CWU expressed disappointment in the 84 pence payment and requested further information on how the bonus is calculated. The issue of the Amazon traffic was discussed and its impact on the scheme. The Mail Centre manager Brian Davies acknowledged that this is an issue.
BUDGET SAVINGS
The MCM stated that next years task had not yet been finalised but it was looking likely to be set at 8%. When asked about VR opportunities Brian stated that this was still very much on the agenda.
FLATS CONCENTRATION
The MCM stated that the traffic for Swansea Mail Centre is due to concentrate from 17th November. At the moment there is a 10% reject rate so an element of work is expected to come back for sortation. Concerns were raised for the night shift who depend on this work at the front end of the shift from 22:00 till Mdnt - the work will no longer be available.
A further meeting then took place with Matthew Hill to discuss Christmas arrangements. The Christmas Plan has not yet been finalised but Matthew was able to share the following information.
Christmas Pressure will run from 8th December - 22nd December
There will be an increase in casual staff this year to compensate for Amazon and the loss of the FCT.
As with previous years overtime will be paid at SA rates and part-time staff would be asked to progress to full-time for the duration.
